Posted by Tony Whiren on 6/3/2024After a beautiful day on Friday at Midland Tennis Center, I wanted to share our exciting and historic results of the Girl's State Finals Tournament with everyone. Out of the 27 participating schools, Huron tied for 15th in the State, along with Rochester and Ann Arbor Skyline. With 4 first-round victories coming from Jiajia Huang (3rd Singles), Neha Gundala (4th Singles), Maya Fu/Zoe Zhang (2nd doubles), and Shannon Fiddy/Kayla Fiddy (4 doubles). The rest of the team battled fierce competition with their close matches, inspiring their teammates and themselves for future matches. It is with great enthusiasm that I would like to share with you and the Huron community the accomplishments of Huron Girls Varsity Tennis this season.
As a team, we have qualified for States after a resounding 2nd place finish at Regionals on 5/16. Twelve competitors -- comprised of 4 singles and 4 doubles-- accumulated 13 points through victories to continue our postseason run.
On May 31st, the players listed below will compete at the Division 1 state tournament hosted in Midland Michigan. It is an honor as one of 26 competing schools across the state of Michigan. This full-day tournament will see players face off head-to-head with some of the most competitive tennis players in Michigan.
As a first-year head coach, and one of the youngest in the State of Michigan high school sports, I am beyond proud of the resilience, respect, and drive my team has demonstrated on and off the courts.
Please give a round of applause to our 2023/2024 Huron Girls Tennis Varsity Team!
