Mrs. Kinlaw
My husband, Jerome, and I have been married for 21 years. We have been blessed with two children, Lana and Maya. Most times we can be found riding a bike, listening to jazz when the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra Jazz Ensemble is playing, or just outside enjoying the sunshine. We are also big movie fans!
My journey into the educational world first began in the sciences! I attended Tuskegee University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with minors in both Physics and Electrical Engineering. I soon shifted gears and received my Master of Education degree in Early Childhood from Auburn University, Montgomery. I have now been in the educational field for nearly 25 years and all of it is in Early Childhood Education. I began my education career teaching Head Start and Kindergarten with Detroit Public Schools. I previously taught at Westerman Preschool & Family Center where I led my General Education classes, Special Education classes and implemented my own science, music and STEM classes. After leaving the Preschool program, I transplanted here to Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School to instruct Kindergarten and then Young 5s.
My love of the sciences helps get children interested in school and this allows me to teach them “how to do school”. I enjoy helping children figure out their emotions, feelings and how to manage all of them while being in school with a lot of other kids. I am passionate about making an impact in the lives of young children and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you for taking the time to read my biography.
