Week 1
Posted by Becky Gracey on 8/23/2024 4:00:00 PMWelcome!
It was so great meeting so many students and families this past week and I am so excited to meet the whole class next Monday (8-26)!!! I have been working hard this week to prepare for the beginning of an incredible new school year! Students may enter the building starting at 8:38 and we will begin our day promptly at 8:45. Dismissal begins at 3:40. Please be sure that you have filled out the August Parent Questionnaire (see below) to let me know your child's dismissal plans. If you are planning on picking up your child through the front drive (Driveline), please be sure you have a piece of paper with your child's name and grade in the car window to help with pick up.
Materials
I will have all the school materials that your child will need for classroom use available as needed. They will only need to bring a backpack, water bottle, lunch, and snack (fruit or veggie only). Please see the placement letter that was sent via email or Mrs. Clinkscale's Dream Keeper newsletter for information regarding free breakfast and hot lunch purchases, if your child will be getting breakfast and/or lunch at school. Both will be available starting the first day of school. Tissue, paper towel, sanitizing wipes (natural-chemical free only), and hand sanitizer donations would be appreciated!
August Parent Questionnaire
Please be sure to fill out the August Parent Questionnaire, linked here, before the first day of school. It is especially important that I know your child's dismissal plans. Please notify me if there are any permanent or temporary dismissal plan changes before 11:30 the day of the change. Please see Mrs. Clinkscale's Dream Keeper Newsletter for other arrival/dismissal information.
Camp Meeting/Curriculum Night
Our Camp Meeting and Curriculum Night will be September 11th from 5:00-7:00. Below is the schedule. Please remember that this night is reserved for curriculum related information. If you would like to meet with me about your child’s progress, it is best to wait for your conference date so that I have enough time to gather information. If there is an issue that you would like to discuss with me before your conference date, please contact me by e-mail, and I will be happy to schedule an appointment with you.
5:00-5:30 Camp Meeting (MPR)
5:30-5:35 Staff Introduction
5:40-6:30 Classroom Presentation (Room 113)
6:35-6:50 Principal Presentation (MPR)
Camp
I am so excited that we will have the opportunity to go to Camp Storer for an overnight camp from September 18th to September 20th! Please refer to the email sent by Mrs. Clickscale for camp information and forms that need to be filled out ASAP.
Devices and HeadphonesI do not know yet when devices will be handed out, but when they do, your child needs to bring them home and back to school, fully charged, every day. I do not have a secure place to keep them overnight. Please send a set of headphones in a baggie labeled with your child's name if you can. These should be left at school and will be used every day. I have extras if your child doesn't have any to bring to school. -

Messages from the Office:
King Learning SPRING Garden Watering
We have started planting with students in the King Learning Garden and need volunteers to water after school. This usually takes about 30 minutes. Please consider signing up for a day between now and the last day of school. We will share directions with you if you sign up. Kids are encouraged and welcomed to join you in the garden!

King Learning Garden SUMMER volunteers
Every summer we ask families to help us tend the garden over the summer. This involves weeding and watering…and harvesting and eating! Please sign up for a week. We are asking for two families per week to share the work. If you have volunteered before you can also sign up as a garden coordinator for a week which means you are on call for questions and problem solving.

NWEA
NWEA testing will continue next week. Exact dates/times/tests are on the calendar page. Please take the time to jot them down and avoid scheduling activities on those dates. There will be make-up times for kids who are absent on testing days, but the best time for testing is on the scheduled days. Here are a few reminders:
1) Please be sure that your child does not have any electronic devices at school that cannot be left in their lockers as they cannot be in the classroom during testing. This includes smart watches, bluetooth headphones/mouse, etc.
2) Please be sure that your child has a charged Chromebook.
3) Please be sure that your child has a healthy breakfast, water bottle, and healthy snack.
Needed Items:
We are in need of playground balls (basketball, soccer ball, and kickball) and an electronic pencil sharpener. Unfortunately, the class lost the balls I purchased for them and put pencil stubs in both of the pencil sharpeners I purchased. If you have anything at home that you could donate, we would appreciate it!

5th Grade End-of-the-Year Packet:
It is hard to believe, but we are starting to think and plan for the end-of-the year! A 5th Grade End-of-the-year Packet is in your child's Friday Folder today (4-19). It contains all of the 5th grade events for the rest of the school year, and there is a lot going on! We wanted to make sure that you had one place to look for dates, times, and needed items. Please take the time this weekend to look over the packet, put the dates/times on your calendar, fill out and sign the permission slips and put them in your child's backpack, and then put the packet in a safe place for your future reference. We need your help to make the end-of-the-year events successful and to give your children a memorable end to 5th grade and their time at King.
