Mr. Kevin Behmer
After student teaching at Huron, Mr. Kevin Behmer began teaching secondary mathematics in 1988 at a rural consolidated district north of Lansing. In 1991 he 'came back home' to teach at Huron and has been here ever since!
Over these many years, he has taught every class offering for freshmen, ranging from Accelerated Geometry to Algebra1 & Pre-Algebra. He has also taught Geometry X (non-proof based), Algebra 1X, Algebra2 (both traditional and "emergency block style" for seniors), and Senior Advanced Math (Intro to PreCalc). Mr. Behmer has also taught Computer Science with the languages of BASIC, HTML, Logo, Pascal, C++, and Java. He is currently the Huron CS teacher with sections of Computer Science Principles and Computer Science A (AP and non-AP) as well as IB/DP Computer Science.
In October 2014, Mr. Behmer was inducted into the River Rat Hall of Fame for his efforts both as a classroom teacher as well as his co-curricular coaching activities of football, cross country, and track and field. Additionally, he was inducted into the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches and the Michigan HS Coaches Halls of Fame in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
In March 2019, Mr. Behmer was presented the Aspirations in Computing Educators Award by the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation for being an advocate for equity and access in Computing/STEM education.
