The Ann Arbor Board of Education has approved a policy that allows a permanent school reassignment for approved students from their assigned school to one that has been identified as having space available. This is determined annually based upon each school’s capacity and projected enrollment. When students are approved, they are able to stay for all years offered at that school.

Important Considerations

• Applications are only accepted during the application window timeframes.
• Applications are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
• In the event that the number of applications exceeds available space, we conduct a lottery of eligible applicants. A waiting list will be maintained for the remaining applications and prioritized through the random draw.
• A link to the full enrollment will be sent to approved applicants, tentatively in May.
• Students are not automatically moved to the next neighborhood building or “feeder” school. A new in-district transfer application is necessary.
• Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and not provided by AAPS.
• Students applying to attend the same school as a sibling have placement priority provided that the currently enrolled sibling will attend the same school in the enrolling year.
• High school students who transfer may be subject to an ineligibility period per MHSAA policy. Please contact the athletic director of the approved school with questions.
