The Ann Arbor Board of Education has approved a policy that allows enrollment of non-resident students under Section 105 and 105C of the School Aid Act. This provides a limited number of seats in designated buildings for students living in a school district within the following Intermediate School Districts: Washtenaw, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland or Wayne.

Under this policy, schools with space available are determined each year based on building capacity and projected enrollment. Applications are accepted annually during a spring application window. Additional application windows may be announced at the District's discretion.

Important Considerations

• By law, applications are only accepted during the application window timeframe.
• Applications are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Applicants during the first SOC window were notified of their application status on or before May 25, 2024. Applicants during the second SOC window were notified of their application status by July 12. Applicants during the first SOC window were notified of their application status on or before August 23.
• In the event that the number of applications exceeds available space, we conduct a lottery of eligible applicants. A waiting list will be maintained for the remaining applications and prioritized through the random draw.
• Two years worth of discipline records will be requested from the applicant’s current school (excluding Young 5s and kindergarten applicants). AAPS may refuse enrollment to a nonresident applicant if the applicant has been suspended from another district within the preceding two years, or if the applicant has ever been expelled from another district.
• Each student within a family requires their own SOC application.
• Priority placement is given to School of Choice applicants who reside in the same household as a school-age pupil already enrolled at AAPS through School of Choice.
• Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and not provided by AAPS.
• If approved for SOC, a student may remain at AAPS for all years until graduation as long as they remain continuously enrolled. A student loses their SOC status if they withdraw from AAPS and must reapply to return. This does not prohibit AAPS from expelling a student for disciplinary reasons.
• Students are not automatically moved to the next neighborhood building or “feeder” school. A transfer application must be made when changing building levels.
